“Alone”: a poem by Chinmayi Balusu

A thousand wishes I can’t forget

A world of wonders that I will regret

My breath a wisp in the heartless winter air

A reminder of the happiness I had yet to wear

The hope that one day someone could call me dear

And be everlasting though not near

My universe should never have come to exist

And I, with ambition too hard to resist

Thought that you could always wait

Yet didn’t realize all you had was hate.
