Homegirl Fellowship
Despite our massive voting power and complex identities, womxn of color are underrepresented in positions of political power: currently, only nine percent of Congressional representatives are womxn of color. Homegirl Fellows aims to uplift the next generation of WOC to become involved in politics, activism, and civic engagement. Our political training program provides mentorship moments, individual support, and practicalized organizing skills to girls of color in grades 9 - 12 to become political leaders and activists in their communities.
First, we gear up. Later on, we'll run for office. And soon enough, we'll change the world.
what we do
Each fall , Homegirl Project selects 10 Fellows in grades 9-12 through a competitive application process. These Fellows are personally trained to ignite, mobilize, and transform their communities, starting at the grassroots level. Fellows have the opportunity to participate in monthly webinars led by prominent organizers on topics such as media outreach, fundraising, social media, and mobilization. They are also matched with a youth mentor with experience in their issue, giving them one-on-one guidance to successfully plan, organize, and execute a Political Action Project in their communities.

advocacy
Learn the basics of grassroot organizing and complete a Political Action Project in your community, such as town halls, lobby day, voter registration drive, policy research, phonebanking, etc. Receive mentoring from experienced youth grassroot organizers.
education
Research and create a virtual educational resource using presentations, discussions, videos, or visual elements regarding an issue area. Learn from trailblazers how you can change the narrative through education and awareness.
technology
Develop a creative solution using technology to address a social issue in your community. It includes but is not limited to developing an app, website, program, machine, etc. Use tech for positive social change with help from youth STEM experts.
